Did you know that Mexico had a black president 180 years before the United States elected Barack Obama? In this video, I tell you all about one of the heroes of Mexican independence, Vicente Guerrero, once of Mexico's first presidents, hero of the Mexican struggle for independence and all the more impressive as an Afromexican at a time when an official caste system existed in the Spanish colonies.

Wherever you go in Mexico, you see the same names of heroes from our history. I wanted to share a little bit about Vicente Guerrero because I'm sure a lot of people didn't know that Mexico has had a black president in the past.

If you like this kind of video and you want to see more content about Mexican history and Mexican culture, please let me know in the comments below. This video is a little bit different to the content that I normally make but I wanted to share a little bit of Mexican history with you that I find very interesting.

I would be very interested to learn more about the Afromexican community, black Mexicans and other communities which are often overlooked in Mexican society. If you belong to one of these groups and you would be willing to collaborate on a video, please let me know.
